Creative Music Communities

Creative Music Communities is Nameless Sound’s music education and social-emotional learning
initiative, taking place in Houston homeless shelters, refugee communities, community centers, and
public schools. Every week we collaborate with nearly 150 young people. Through improvisation and
dialog, our Artist-Facilitators provide a safe, inclusive space for creative work, knowledge transfer,
healing, and play. The success of this youth-centered program owes to our responsive adaptability,
allowing our Artist-Facilitators to address a variety of unmet needs in Houston’s most vulnerable
communities.

Job Description

The Project Coordinator collaborates on the evolution of Creative Music Communities by overseeing
initiatives targeted towards deepening impact. These include the overseeing of Nameless Sound Project
Sites, workshops identified for the potential of deeper engagement through youth-driven projects such as
performances and recording sessions. It also includes the overseeing of a Nameless Sound Youth
Committee, an initiative conceived to unite young people from various Nameless Sound workshops, giving
them a voice in programming and policies at all levels of the organization.

The Project Coordinator organizes staff learning initiatives, such as training in trauma-informed
interventions and restorative justice practices. They also play a significant role in integrating these
learnings into our Facilitator Handbook.

The Project Coordinator works with the Program Coordinator to organize and facilitate guest artist
workshops/residencies, bringing artists from Nameless Sound’s concert series into our workshop sites to
engage with participants.

The Project Coordinator helps to identify and build relationships with new and existing community
partners. They respond to requests for services in conjunction with the Program Coordinator. They
facilitate memorandums of understanding with partnering sites.

Along with the Program Coordinator, the Project Coordinator helps to identify and hire potential
Artist-Facilitators.

The Project Coordinator will update and oversee detailed profiles about partner sites, with information
about the organization, addresses, contacts, demographics, and our history working with them.Strong candidates will have the following qualities and aptitudes:

     ● Familiarity with and sensitivity to trauma-informed interventions, restorative justice practices,
        social justice, and youth-centered projects.
     ● Organized and able to manage logistics and multiple schedules.
     ● Strong communication skills to maintain existing Nameless Sound partnerships as well as forge
        new relations.
     ● Goal oriented and prepared to have the responsibility of managing and developing programs.
     ● Collaborative and works well with Program Coordinator to manage a staff of Artist-Facilitators.
     ● Comfortable working in an artist-run organization and maintaining a level of flexibility while
        working with artists on staff as well as visiting artists-in-residence.
     ● NOTE: It is not necessary for the Project Coordinator to be a musician or artist.
